SIRADEL is a French SME and is one of the main European suppliers of geographic databases dedicated to the planning of 2G and 3G radio networks. SIRADEL three main activities are: Propagation modelling: we edit software called Volcano that computes the EM wave propagation in heterogeneous environments (outdoor, indoor, rural, and urban). Geo data modelling: we produce ourselves high resolution geo map data for operational use from 50m to 1m resolution. Signal measurement: we carry out measurement campaigns for cellular and broadcast operators.
SIRADEL develops and sells the Volcano software propagation engine, featuring the best propagation models available on the market. Volcano is a software component which, when interfaced with a radio network planning tool, allows enhanced, high-accuracy, radio coverage predictions to be carried out and networks performance optimization calculations. This software is mainly designed for outdoor wireless network. Some features are dedicated to outdoor-to-indoor propagation penetration. SIRADEL customers are Operators (Telcos, Broadcast), Equipment vendors and MoD.
SIRADEL also provides consulting based on the scientific and technical operational knowledge that has been developed in the company through many years of experience in Telecommunication, Broadcasting and Radar military and civil works. SIRADEL participates in several academic and industrial research programs in telecommunications, aimed at the planning of new networks (4G, UMTS LTE, 3G, WiFi, LMDS, TD-SCDMA, indoor/outdoor, Digital TV) and is an active member of the COST 2100 European research group entitled “Ambient and pervasive networks”.
SIRADEL´s R&D team is currently working on new technologies and standards for future releases of Volcano with some R&D partners in the frame of National and International Telecom Research Projects: PLUTO (IST/STREP), Rhodos, Recitent, Lao Tseu, Iroise and formerly SIRADEL has been contractor for TDF/CCETT on Motivate project. The project will be managed at SIRADEL by Dr. Yves Lostanlen, Director of the radio department (17 Engineers + MSc students). The project will be executed by Dr. Lostanlen, Dr. Thierry Tenoux, Yoann Corre, Grégory Gougeon, MSc students and a PostDoc.
Yves Lostanlen works as a director of the Research and Development Radio Department for Siradel in the Radio Network Planning field. He is responsible for software engineering, customer support, radio expertise, and research for new wireless network design and optimization, RF propagation as applied to Radiocommunication Systems Radar and Digital TV. Yves will also be responsible for the quality management of SIRADEL´s part of this project.
He also manages external research projects on MIMO, UMTS, DigitalTV, BWA, WLAN domains and is responsible for assisting with scientific marketing of the company.
He joined SIRADEL in 2001 after completion of a research fellowship at the National Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA). Dr. Lostanlen has acted as a consultant to public, military and private organizations including major wireless players. He is a member of several leading industry and academic bodies including the IEEE, IEE and SEE.
He has written more than 50 papers for international conferences, periodicals and three book chapters in Ultrawideband Short Pulse Electromagnetics books. He has been session chairman and member of national and international scientific conference committees.
