Short description

Created in 2002 in association with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the UNIVERSITÉ DE RENNES 1 (UR1) creates synergies between 240 researchers and teachers, from several Breton institutes, the University of Rennes 1, the Rennes Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA), the Higher School of Electricity (Supelec), the Higher National School for Applied Sciences and Technology (ENSSAT). Combining expertise in digital communications, signal processing, smart antennas, image processing, electromagnetic propagation, microelectronics, radar polarimetry, etc, UR1 collaborates with a high number of public or private research centres in more than 40 regional, national or European projects. Widely involved in the international scientific community and thanks to a unique set of technical facilities, UR1 stands out as a first-class partner for industrials.

The entity involved in the UCELLS project will be the Communications-Propagation-Radar department, which will bring its expertise concerning 3D ray-tracing channel modelling and the optimization of advanced algorithms for MIMO-OFDM based communication systems. UR1 has been within other European projects as IST FP5 MATRICE and IST FP6 4MORE both dealing with B3G and 4G cellular networks or the NoE NEWCOM.

Participants

• Bernard Uguen received his Dipl.-Ing. and his Ph.D degree in Electronics and Signal Processing from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Rennes, France, in 1988 and 1992 respectively. From 1993 to 2006 he has been an Associate Professor at the Electronics and Communications Systems (ESC) Department of the INSA of Rennes. In September 2006 he joins University of Rennes 1 where he is currently professor. He belongs, as a researcher, to the Rennes institute for Electronics and Telecommunications (UR1). His main research interests are electromagnetic and diffraction theories, propagation modelling, radar and Ultra Wide Band technology. He has been involved in the application of 3D ray tracing for analysis of UWB localisation systems in multipath channel. His current interests are related to UWB communications and localization within wireless network.
