Wisair, a fabless semiconductor privately-held SME company, is a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) integrated circuits and solutions for low cost, low power and high bit-rate wireless applications. Wisair is headquartered in Israel with offices and representatives in USA, Japan, Korea and Taiwan and Germany. The company was founded in 2001, has over 100 employees and is part of the Israeli RAD group, a group of independent companies that develop, manufacture and market solutions for diverse segments of the networking and telecommunications industry. Wisair has in-house all the required expertise (RFIC, Analog, VLSI, PHY, MAC, software, system and reference design) and provides complete solutions being a one-stop shop for its customers. As a technology leader in the UWB arena Wisair holds multiple UWB patents and is a member of the WiMedia alliance (board member), the Wireless USB Implementers Forum and the Bluetooth SIG. Wisair has been an active participator and contributor to various European projects.
Wisair´s UWB experience begins in the 90s, when several complete UWB communication systems were implemented by Wisair team members at the Israeli Research & Development Centre. Holding key positions at DSP Communications (acquired in 1999 by Intel), Wisair´s core team has further gained a rich experience in wireless communications, indoor propagation and chipset implementation.
The Wisair team holds multiple Ultra Wideband patents, and has been dedicated since 2001 to provide complete interoperable Ultra Wideband and wireless USB solutions that answer real-life applications.
Wisair was one of the founding key members of the WiMedia/MBOA alliance, an industry group dedicated to creating a pervasive wireless multimedia networking solution for PC, CE and mobile devices based on UWB technology. In addition is a member in the Wireless USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).
UWB has huge potential due to its promise for high data rate but the limited range, limits its use to specific applications. U-CELLS push towards a scenario of application of UWB systems/devices in cellular-like operation. Wisair believes the target of UCELSS is very important for the UWB industry in its contribution to enlarging the possible UWB applications and services.
